Best Capsules

CBD capsules are super convenient.  They provide accurate dosing and go down in seconds.  This can be helpful for people who struggle to keep oil under their tongue without swallowing.  If these benefits sound attractive to you then capsules are what you should be looking for.

After considering lots of different CBD capsules on the market, I recommend CBD Essence Hemp Capsules (view on CBDEssence.com).  They are loaded with 35 mg of high quality CBD and full spectrum hemp oil.  But there’s something about these capsules that really sets these capsules apart from all the other on the market.  The unique formulation of this product helps get as much of the CBD into your system as possible for a capsule.

Any product that delivers CBD after it’s swallowed, like capsules, actually loses it’s potency by the time the CBD gets into your system.  However, the creative folks at CBD Essence have spent years developing a special protective coating to protect their CBD from acids in the stomach.  This helps ensure you get the most possible CBD available to your body once it gets past the stomach.

How much CBD will a capsule provide

This may seem like a simple question…  just look at the bottle and see how many mg of CBD each capsule contains.  But there’s more to the story than just how much each capsule contains.

Yes the CBD capsule content is the starting point.  The challenge starts once you swallow the capsule and it gets dissolved by the acid in your stomach.  The CBD is then exposed to acid and can start to lose it’s activity.  Most of the capsule providers don’t really address this issue with their capsules.

CBD Essence is the only manufacturer I’ve seen that has addressed this challenge.  They have developed a process to encapsulate their CBD in little spheres called liposomes.  These spheres protect the CBD from being deactivated in your stomach and helps it to fully absorb into your bloodstream.  This technology is what I love about these capsules and what I think sets CBD Essence’s capsules apart from everyone else.  CBD is not cheap so finding a way to keep as much of it active as possible is worth a lot.

Here’s a really quick video that shows how liposomes work.

Other Considerations

There are a few key things to look for and consider when buying CBD capsules.  Here are a few…

Organic

One of the things that makes CBD so exciting is that it comes from nature.  So many of the medictations we take into our bodies are made in large chemical factories.  CBD is made by nature in a plant.  Most of the CBD products you can buy are going to be organic.  But this is definately something to double check.

Pesticide/Herbicide free

Hemp plants are known to absorb lots of chemicals from the soil.  They are kind of like sponges that soak up whatever is around them.  This includes harmful chemicals from pesticides and herbicides.  So double check that the products you buy are from hemp grown without these chemicals.

Full spectrum CBD oil

Besides CBD, hemp produces many compounds that can be helpful to the body.  There are other cannabinoids and terpenoids as well as essential oils that can contribute to overall health.  A full spectrum CBD oil capsule should deliver these compounds.

THC Content

Something I always caution people about is the difference between CBD and THC.  THC will get you high.  Most CBD capsule products that are sold online sould be from hemp which means they will contain less than 0.3% THC.  But it’s always something worth double checking.

Third party testing

People can claim all sorts of things about their products but can they prove it?  Make sure whatever product you’re buying is backed up by third party testing results.  They may not be readily available on their website, but retailers should be willing to share testing results with you upon request.   If they won’t then I would consider that a red flag.

Capsule disadvantage

I want to be totally honest with you about one disadvantage that all capsules have.  All capsules lose around 85 – 90% of its CBD in the liver before it can even start working in the body. This is independent of which brand or product you buy.  It doesn’t mean capsules are bad, or that you shouldn’t use them.  I just want you to be aware of this.

The first place CBD goes once its absorbed after the stomach is the liver.  And it turns out the liver is really efficient at metabolizing CBD.  You’ll still get some CBD into your system and it will still be effective.  But you can get the same effect with a smaller dose of CBD if you can take it as a tincture or similar product that’s absorbed in the mouth.  For some this is difficult so capsules work great in these cases.

Capsules are quick, convenient, and they deliver the same amount of CBD every time you take them.  Plus they are flavorless which many people really appreciate.  These factors are what gives them an advantage over other delivery methods.
